Court Retains Ngige’s EFCC Bail, Demands Top Civil Servant Surety

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwarinpa, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that former Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige continue to enjoy the administrative bail previously granted to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The ruling was delivered by Justice Maryam Hassan following a bail application filed on behalf of Ngige by his lead counsel, Patrick Ikwueto (SAN).

Surety Requirements Specified

Justice Hassan directed that Ngige must present a surety who is a director in the employment of the Federal Government and owns a landed property.

The surety is required to deposit the property’s title documents and his travel documents with the court until Ngige retrieves his international passport.

Previously, the EFCC had granted Ngige bail on self-recognition, instructing him to submit his travel documents to the commission and provide one surety.

Next Steps

The court’s order allows Ngige to continue his bail under these specified conditions. More details are expected as the matter progresses.

Ngige’s bail retention comes amid ongoing investigations and proceedings by the EFCC, highlighting the court’s role in balancing enforcement with due process.
